No. 568.

AIR MAIL.

5/50556/00,

Sir,

GOVERNMENT HOUSE,

HỒNG KÔNG.

9th September, 1937.

I have the honour to refer to Mr. Malcolm

MacDonald's despatch No.481 of the 19th November,

1935, and to previous correspondence on the subject

of the Tung Wah and Associated Hospitals.

2.

Since this correspondence took place some

advance has been made towards ensuring the better

control and administration of these hospitals, and,

although the position is by no means entirely

on the medical side, arrangements already set on foot to secure greater efficiency and continuity of management will before long be carried to a successful

conclusion.

3.

The financial position of the hospitals,

however, has for some time been a cause of anxiety.

Since the opening ten years ago of the Tung Wah Eastern Hospital Directors of successive years have been faced with the problem of financing work which, with the increasing population and growing efficiency

of the hospitals, has necessitated large increases

of expenditure. The endowments are for the most part

THE RIGHT HONOURABLE

W.G.A.ORMSBY-GORE, P.C., M.P.,

&c., &c., &c.
